FAQs

feather & flame candles

  • Our candles are made from natural soy wax, free from palm and paraffin contents. Did you know that many candle brands out there, market their products as "soy" when in fact they contain less than 20% soy? Our wax has been lab tested to show that it is free from synthetic materials, leaving you with only the good stuff.

  • On top of being natural, soy wax gives our candles a gorgeous creamy finish and slows down the burn so you can enjoy it for longer. It burns cleaner and releases less soot and smoke when compared to paraffin candles. To top it all off, it's biodegradable so it’s easy to clean with some hot soapy water, for when you are ready to re-purpose your jar.

  • If you find this happening to your candle, don't worry. As mentioned, this is just a sign that our wax is natural and free from synthetic additives. In trade for a guaranteed smooth surface, you'll get a cleaner, longer burn with a stronger scent throw.

  • All our candles are hand poured in small batches, so each one is unique. We try our best to keep them all consistent but at times natural wax is known to crack, sweat or frost over. This doesn't affect the performance of the candle at all, it's just a sign that it is free from synthetic additives.

  • We aim to ensure all of our candles  will last as long as possible however burn times vary based on many factors including candle maintenance (whether wicks are being properly trimmed), the length of each solid burn time (a longer burn that results in a deeper melted wax pool tends to  evaporate faster), where you place the candle (draughty areas may effect burn times) and how old your candle is.

In ideal conditions, our 300g candles may burn for up to 50 hours.

  • See our CANDLE CARE page for all the answers, or refer to the safety sticker under your candle.

‘from the ashes’ kits

  • See our recycling program page for details.

  • Here at FEATHER & FLAME we encourage a sustainable and economical lifestyle. This means using items to their full potential and reusing them wherever possible. All our large candles come with a seed and soil kit, so you can recycle the jars once the candles life ends, and transform it into a home for new seedlings to grow.

  • Depending on the type of seeds, our ‘from the ashes’ kits could include more seeds than you need to fit your jar. Note, that some of the seeds are incredibly small. Press approx. 4-10 of these fine seeds into the surface of the soil, spread evenly apart. You can keep the rest for another time or sow them in the garden/other pots.

Don't worry if you plant too many seeds, (we have a habit of that) thin out to the strongest 2 or 3 seedlings, and watch them grow.

  • Growing a plant from a seed is kind of like taking care of a small child, they require patience and a bit of TLC. We've specifically picked out seeds that are quick and easy to grow, however, they do still need a couple of things; enough sunlight, and the soil must be kept damp but not soaked. If you still aren’t having much luck, try moving the jar to a different area in your house, or possibly outside.

  • The time will come when your seedlings graduate and grow too large for your jar to hold. When this happens, carefully scoop them out below the roots and transplant them to a larger pot or the garden for them to flourish freely. If you have left over seeds and soil, start your cycle again.

  • Yes, definitely. Just be sure whatever seeds you pick are fit for growing in small jars.
